If you’re new here, welcome! If you’ve been reading along lately, you know that my five-year-old art collector has been pushing me to create more artwork lately. He said the other day, “You need to make something else!” So I made this drawing of the Brasenose door in Oxford. I showed him the finished product and he said, “But it doesn’t look like anything.” Hahahaha! Love that little guy. Anyway, thank you for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the video!

Venice Time-Lapse Drawing
Last month, I posted a time-lapse video of a train painting I created for my five-year-old son (link here). Within the last week, he said, “You need to do another project! Keep painting!” I had always heard the expression (I’m paraphrasing) – Keep creating art and you will find someone who loves it. I did not realize how special it would be for my little art collector to be my own five-year old son.
He and I looked through some of my photos from when I was in Europe and i told him to pick something that I could draw next. He picked a photo of Santa Maria della Salute in Venice, Italy.

Selecting Throw Pillows
A great strategy when designing your home is to keep the investment pieces neutral and add color in the less-expensive accent pieces (like curtains, blankets and throw pillows). Throw pillows are an inexpensive way to add color and fun to a room. Bonus- they are easy to change out as your style changes.

Selecting Throw Pillows with Lines
These are fun because they add some pattern without adding chaos to your design.
Selecting Throw Pillows with Florals
Warning, it’s about to get all feminine up in here. Here are some of my favorite versatile floral prints.
Mix your patterns with solid color pillows
The options above are great in small doses. I’d recommend buying two matching pillows from the options above and pairing them with two solid pillows. The solids will help balance the busyness of the prints.
For example, pair two of these leopard pillows with two of the solid dark blue pillow below.

Time-lapse Train Painting
One of the best parts about home decor, in my opinion, is the artwork we bring into our homes. I created this website because finding, creating, or framing something to be displayed in one’s home is important. It’s incredibly personal. Artwork has the power to change the mood of a room in an instant.
I love to paint and I was pulling out an old painting of mine when my five-year-old asked about it. He then asked if I would paint something for him. I said, “Of course, anything you want.” He said, “A train!” I made the painting below because he loves trains and because I wanted to add some love to his bedroom decor. What better way to do that than with my own two hands?

Top 4 Metalwork Artists on Etsy
Metalwork adds dimension and variation to any room. It’s fun to mix up flat, framed, artwork by adding something that stands out. Joanna Gaines uses metalwork a lot in her designs and she visits a custom metalworking shop in Texas to make her visions come to life. For those of us who don’t have a metalworking buddy on speed dial, there is Etsy. Etsy has some amazing metalwork artists and each purchase helps to directly support their business. Here’s my take on the top 4 metalwork artists on Etsy.
1. MetalWorldMap
Link to the shop is here. Link to purchase the Freedom Birds, pictured above, is here.
These metal birds are versatile and can work in any room in your home. They would look lovely soaring towards a cathedral ceiling in a living room or filling empty wall space above a front door.
2. MetalloDecor
Link to shop is here. Link to purchase Peony Flower is here.
This peony would work above a fireplace mantel, or as part of a big gallery wall. The shape and creativity is fine art at its finest. This artist also has a beautiful metal wall organizer for sale that would work great in an office or kitchen. Link for wall organizer is here.
3. MetalDecoArt
Link to shop is here. Link to purchase the Three Leaves, pictured above, is here.
The perfect plant that will never need water or sunlight, these leaves add life to any room. They look great together or separate them and use them in different rooms. I can see them hung in a straight horizontal line above a couch, or in a triangle (as pictured) above a bookshelf.
4. LauraAshleyWoodArt
Link to shop is here. Link to purchase Geometric Metal Wood Art, pictured above, is here.
I love the artist’s combination of wood, metal, shape, and color. These works are big so they’d be great to use above a bed, or in a dining room. She also allows you to choose your wood stain and accent paint colors. This is great so as not to clash with existing hardwood floors or decor.

Decor for a Child’s Bathroom
Selecting decor for a child’s bathroom is the best. It’s a time to be whimsical, have a sense of humor and have some fun. One of my favorite places to go is to Target. I purchased both of the shower curtains below at Target. I happen to have two boys but if you have girls – forgetaboutit. The selection is just so cute!

Shower curtain
So you might be asking yourself, “Do I have to have a theme?” No. just pick stuff you like and mix/match. My son’s (current) favorite color is dark blue so we went with that.
This shower curtain is just my favorite. A lot of guests use this bathroom and I think it works for adults too. It also makes me think of The Beatles, “Good Day Sunshine” too which makes me smile.
Now that we’ve got the shower curtains covered, let’s take a look at some bath mat and hand towel options.
Bath Mats
I love the Jurassic Park reference
Gotta love some sleepy clouds in the morning.
Here are some playful options (decor for a child’s bathroom). Why do I love cacti so much?
Towels
Let me tell you an interior design secret…all your towels don’t have to match…shhh. Another secret that no one wants you to know…your bath mat, shower curtain, toothbrush holder and towels don’t all have to match either. It’s important to have some fun, especially with the kid’s bathroom. Mix and match stuff that makes you smile.

Decorating Rooms with Odd Angles
Bonus rooms over the garage are wonderful. They add extra square footage to your house and often make for the perfect extra bedroom. But something I’ve been avoiding for a while (umm 3 years) is adding artwork to the walls.
I tried a few different options and I’d love to get your opinion about decorating rooms with odd angles in the comments below. Which option do you think works better in this room?
The First Option
For the first option, I added some three-dimensional elements with the wood snowflake mirrors. I kept the pieces grounded by maintaining an overall rectangular shape. The gold hues in the Da Vinci self-portrait, mimic the gold hues in the Eiffel Tower painting. For those who are interested, the Eiffel Tower painting is for sale here.
I also like how the black frame ties in the with the black Eiffel Tower motif, but that there is also this silver frame, with the photo of the Venetian gondolier, that ties in with the silver-ish tones of the snowflakes (more information about the snowflakes can be found here).
Every image and piece has a special significance to me. I played around with different pieces by using thumbtacks to hang them at first (Before committing to a nail in the wall).
The Second Option
For this option, I added some three-dimensional interest with a small basket my grandmother made (on the top left). I tied in the black frames with the Eiffel Tower painting again but also pulled in a cream frame to match the bedding and table lamp (Side note- I just love cream and white bedding. It’s so serene and easy to keep clean with a little bleach).
The Third Option
Or do you think I’m better off skipping the gallery wall and just hanging a single large piece of artwork?

Artwork for Your Office
We spend a lot of time at the office, so why not take a few hours to find some items to make it a personal and uplifting space? One of the greatest things about the time we live in is that it’s never been easier to purchase art prints, that benefit the actual artist, at a low cost. There is so much beautiful art out there, here are some ideas for artwork for your office.

When looking for artwork for your office, the number one factor is you. What are your favorite subjects and colors? Do you like photography, paintings, or drawings? Do you like architecture, fashion, landscape, cityscape, seascape, still-life, flowers, sports etc.? Take the time to find a piece of artwork that makes you feel a certain way. It may be a photograph that reminds you of a trip or a memory. It may be a work that reminds you of a person you admire or goal you have. If you love the beach, check out my post on sophisticated beach artwork (link here).
The option below is printed on canvas which is a little more expensive but it adds great dimension to your space.
How to hang artwork on your cubical wall
These wire wall hooks (link here) are a great way to mount artwork on a fabric cubical wall partition. Just make sure your artwork is lightweight and has a string on the back for hanging the piece. If the artwork doesn’t have a string, it’s as easy as adding two eye hooks to the back of the frame and attaching a string.
If you don’t have a cubical wall. Here are some great artwork print options for your desk. The frames are wide enough that they stand up on their own. Bonus – the artists earn a commission off of every print that is sold (another bonus- they are inexpensive):
Frames for your favorite family photos
The absolute best pieces of artwork, in my opinion, are photos of the smiling faces of people you love.
Bring in a low maintenance plant
Real plants add such a serene quality to an office. The snack plant pictured above thrives on neglect and low light (You won’t have to worry about that extended time off during the holidays where you won’t be able to water it). It also cleans the air.
Artwork for your office: Find the right clock
Office accessories that’ll add some fun
These office trays are great for organizing little clutter on your desk while adding some texture and fun.
Find your favorite coffee mug
Pick a mug or tumbler that will make you smile. Also, Shutterfly is great because you can turn any picture into a mug.

Creative Curtain Options: Curtain Buying Guide

Curtains are a great way to add personality to any room (bonus- they are easy to update as your style changes over the years). In my post about How to Pick a Paint Color (link here), I wrote about choosing neutrals for the walls and using curtains to add color and pattern to a room. Below you’ll find some creative curtain options for standard-sized curtains.
These curtains are great for bedrooms as they are available in a blackout option. Blackout curtains are the key to a good nights sleep in my opinion!
These green and white curtains feel easy-breezy to me. Something about the colors and patterns gives such a carefree feel.
Orange and pink may seem like scary colors to use when decorating. But I say, if you love ’em use ’em.
I love blue and it’s often hard to find something that’s not navy or light blue. I had to find some mid-range blue options for this curtain buying guide.
These curtains don’t add much color but they do add some dimmension and sophistication.

3 Decor Websites That Support Artisans Worldwide
When visiting the homes of people I love and admire, the decor elements that inspire me the most are the ones that have a story. This post is a buyer’s guide for affordable home decor elements that are made by artisans from around the world. These three websites make it easy to buy home accents that will not only beautify your home or office but will also support artisans so that they can continue to create important work.
1.) The Little Market
The Little Market is a fair trade stop with a big heart. Their mission creates opportunities for customers to find and buy products made by hardworking artisans from around the world. At The Little Market, you’ll find bags, totes, jewelry, dishes, towels and more. These trinket trays are stylish for any bathroom counter or bedside table and would make great gifts as well!
Another favorite find from The Little Market is this woven tray. It would be great on a coffee table or hung on the wall as it is definitely a work of art.
2.) Serrv
Serrv is another fair trade shop that has its heart set on keeping artisans employed and passing on their craft to future generations. Here’s a quote from their website:
“Marginalized artisans and farmers who are empowered by sustainable employment, fair wages and safe working conditions find security and dignity in their work. They create stronger and healthier communities. They send their children to school. They hand down traditions of cultural craft.”
This blue throw would be perfect to keep at the office for when it gets chilly and would also make a great gift!
Novica
Novica has sent over $92.5 million to artisans worldwide. I ordered two items from Novica, the hand-carved wall panel (photo above), and the snowflake wall mirrors (set of 3 – photo below). The shipping was fast and affordable (only $3.95 for the mirrors). And each item came with a note about who made the product and where it came from. I’ve said it before but what a perfect gift!
